Artist Biography

Jamar A. Simien
Visual Artist

Born and raised in Lake Charles, La., I quickly found Art to be my ideal expressive tool. While in Louisiana, I was involved in several formative activities including: creating sets for local plays, designing logos and tee shirts, serving as the cartoonist for the LSU newspaper, teaching summer art lessons and winning over 40 art competitions on the local, state and national level. My interest in design, architecture and nature lead me to LSU to pursue a degree from the #1 Landscape Architecture program in the country.

From 2007-2009 I practiced design in Houston, Tx. for one of the leading Landscape Architecture firms in the country- The Office of James Burnett. My passion for art and mentoring lead me to Cedar Bayou Junior School in the Spring of 2010. My philosophy towards art is rooted in the belief that through my natural gift- I can make an impact and inspire students to express themselves creatively.
